Allen Wong is the developer behind many best-selling apps such as 5-0 Radio and Police Scanner+. He became a self-made millionaire before he was 25.

But, life wasn't always this grand for him. He was the only person in his family earning an income. And, he came from an oppressed family that grew up in the slums. Regardless, the apps he published were downloaded by over 15 million people.

His apps have been featured in many places, including Wired.com, NBC News, and CNN. Now he's sharing the story on how he did it, the crises he struggled with, and what his father taught him to be successful.

App companies have paid him thousands of dollars for consultant work, and he has helped them increase their download numbers by over 1000%. One of those apps was downloaded by over 100,000 users in one day. And now he is revealing his marketing secrets for the first time in this book.

Note This book was written with non-technical people in mind. The book covers both life and entrepreneurial lessons, and not all of the book is about app development.

Lifehacked How One Family from the Slums Made Millions Selling Apps eBook Allen Wong

I heard that it's a quick read and decided to take a quick peek at it tonight.
That peek turned into 5 hours.
Lifehacked is an amazing book, the author, Allen Wong, is an amazing app developer who came from a poor family and decided to make something of himself. The way he thinks and his background made it easy for me to relate. Asian, a nerd in school, typical Chinese family and upbringing... I'm so glad I picked it up.
"Luck" shows itself to those who expose themselves to the world. He offers a lot of "life-hacks", or little tips/tricks that has been useful in his life, in the book. These tips range from useful general life tips such as having a contingency or backup plan just in case things backfire, to financial discipline tips such as living frugally and diversifying your portfolio.
But the jewel in this book, in my opinion, is in the last few pages. He summarized what motivated him to succeed in the first place and the lessons he learned throughout the years, and concluded with what he's able to achieve now: He provided for his family, he fulfilled his dream of owning a Lamborghini, he stayed and nursed his mom back to health, and he lives in a fancy luxurious house in Florida with all the time in the world to pursue the things that he truly enjoys.
The FAQ contains a wealth of information in there. I liked the part where he talks about how he filters out noise and balances between work and fun. This guy's truly a nerd (which resonates with me :p), he thinks of ways to optimize not just code, but his lifestyle as well. He figured that having fun such as playing video games made him feel guilty because he could've spent that time working on projects that made money instead.
His solution is genius - rather than spending time alone playing games, he decided to he could get rid of the guilt "by doing those fun things with someone I care about. Then it becomes a selfless act."
I definitely picked up a lot of ingenious tidbits from this guy, and I'll be keeping this in my shelf for a long time to come.

Lifehacked How One Family from the Slums Made Millions Selling Apps eBook Allen Wong Reviews

I saw all these glowing reviews and became suspicious thinking it may have been written by his friends or family. I bought the version on a whim since it was only $9.99. Boy was I wrong about the fake reviews. I have never read a book so fast - I finished it in 3 days. It was perhaps the most gripping non-fiction book I've ever read (although I almost only read non-fiction).

The book goes in depth into his family's life, including his father's escape from Communist China and Allen's own childhood. The part that got me laughing out loud was when he created hacks that punished bullies in a video game in high school. The story reveals his assiduous work ethic and his cunning creativity. It shows that he not only works hard, but he also works smart. And working smart is really the idea behind lifehacking. It's also nice to see inspirational adages, a majority of them from Bruce Lee, marking the end each chapter.

Throughout the book you can see his trials and tribulations. The death of his father which sparks his mother's mental disorder into relapse are hurdles that ultimately show Allen's compassion and respect towards his family. The ending is definitely a tear-jerker and proves that he is sincerely a down-to-earth guy. He shares a lot of wisdom throughout the book - from financial advice to being humble.

One minor caveat There are some parts where he skips around in time he jumps from talking about his life then to app building so it's not completely in chronological order. However, this isn't enough to take away from the overall experience of enjoying this book.

Conclusion - buy it! It can change your life.
This was good. It could have been much better with an editor, but apparently he either thought he didn't need one, or he asked a friend to look over it before publishing. It's not up to the standard it should be, but the information presented is pure gold.
I really enjoyed reading this book for the autobiography part as well as the App and business development. I find it very encouraging to read how others deal with issues in life and overcome obstacles and prevale in spite of negative things that happen to their families.
To say that this book is amazing would be the same as to say nothing. This is less of a book on how-to develop apps as more of a book on how to live your life no matter the income your life would require. I picked this book up to strip away some strategies on how to make app I'm launching a success but instead I found something different and infinitely more valuable in these pages. I read this book cover to cover only 5 days since it's been printed (I will attach picture) and would've read it sooner and wish i read it sooner. It is amazing and taught me more about life than anything I read within five years. It is also an extremely easy read with amazing quotes and clear structure to take notes for later reference. Now I have both a list of tasks and features to incorporate into my future apps as well as life advice that will help me stay human no matter what happens to me.
Without this book I would not realize what a conceited person I was now I know how to evaluate my life. Read this book, just because this kid has aventador and recently got a pagani huayra,(Allen if you read this congrats & I hope your mother is well) Does not automatically mean he is a poser, he is not and he has need for those sexy things more than anyone I know.
This book will get you both hard, humble and private but that is a must if you want to make anything near as spectacular as Allen out of your existence. Also totally irrelevant but the book is covered in some waxy cover that made it very nice to touch (not cheap at all) but left wax stains on smooth glossy surfaces lol, this will take me some time to get this out of my work-table but worth the read regardless.
